Of course, being the internet, there are always occasional trolls, but they’re not very common, and our helpful mods deal with them fairly and quickly. I can’t play or develop and watch the chat very easily, so the community really comes together and helps out, especially when we get a bunch of new curious people in the chat asking questions. I’ve written before about how important a healthy community is for SpyParty, and the Twitch chat is no different. The TTT stream is promoted to the Twitch front page when there aren’t other things on their calendar, so it occasionally filled with way more people than usual for my streams. I had just released build v.0 earlier this morning, which had a ton of optimizations for performance on the new artwork, and it was so nice to stream at a good framerate again! I’ll do a detailed blog post about the optimizations soon. Here’s the one from today: 1 Today I played varanas, and then moons for his 1k birthday game. It’s a mix of playtesting, development, and debugging broken builds that were supposed to “just work”. I recently started doing a weekly SpyParty stream on Twitch, and I’ve decided to call it Tuesdays at Ten on Twitch, because, well, it’s on Tuesdays at 10am US Pacific time on the SpyParty Twitch Channel, funny that! I will usually tweet about it, or you can subscribe to the channel for notifications whenever I stream, or check out the SpyParty Streams Notifier for all related streams.

We sold copies of the game again with the awesome code cards, and did pretty well. Of course, they only wanted to train adults as soon as another kid came up in line, they scrambled to take a break, because bossing adults around the map is fine, but training another kid? NO WAY TOO WEIRD! We also had child labor! Day of the Devs was all-ages this year, so my daughter and a friend came and helped out with training people to play. Like last year, slappydavis came to town and helped out in the booth, and was awesome. Indie game development is all about making it work! For the ventilation problem, I brought an industrial shop fan, and it helped, but you still hit a wall of moist when you walked in the door. The touch I’m most proud of is cutting a hole in the plastic light shade I put on the back light so there was a spot on the poster on the back wall. To combat the accoustics and visual problem, we scavenged for furniture, adjusted the lighting with spare cloth and plastic bags, and John (who lives a couple blocks away) went and got a lamp, and we managed to turn the place into a bit of a cocktail lounge, which is fitting. It was basically a metal box with a tiny armored door, with the acoustics and ventilation you’d expect from that description.
